Hi, I’m Olivia!
I am a serial crafter. I have been crafting for as long as I can remember. From making forts out of cardboard boxes as a kid, to now crocheting, scrapbooking, painting, and anything in between. And I am the first to say, I’m not amazing at crafting. I’m not an amazing artist. I need to follow tutorials and look at reference pictures to help me craft. But, I have really started to understand the importance crafting has played in my life.
I realized that I always seem to turn to crafting and making art when I really feel out of tune, or something is off. This feeling, I have come to realize, manifests itself from stress, anxiety, loss of control, and fear. But, when I can create something colorful or unique or pretty, or I can use my hands and senses to express my emotions, I feel like I am back in tune.
As someone who crafts all the time, I have always encountered people who say “I’m not good a crafting” or “I’m not creative”, and it always bothered me. To me, crafting is not about making good art. It’s not about being “good” at something on your first try. It’s about the experience: working with your hands; enjoying the experience and company; or stepping outside of your comfort zone. I have surprised myself countless times while crafting when I just allow myself to be free. Free to explore the mistakes I make, free to explore what emotions come up, and free to just create. I always learn something new about myself, something that gets me excited to push myself further.
…And That’s Where Wallflower Comes In
I started Wallflower to combine crafting and mindfulness exercises to show people just like you that being in the present moment and creating something new can be a magical experience. Wallflower’s workshops will get you thinking creatively, relieve stress and anxiety, and leave you with a new hobby.
